TOO MANY HANDS

Most texas hold'em players play too many hands, its a big No! No! If you start with the best card combination at your hand, you are more likely to end up with the best hand. When you have decided to play any two cards with the hopes of flopping something good, you will probably make the second best hand.

This will lead to you paying off opponents too much. Even if you don’t make any hands, your markers will disappear into the blue, as you will pay for a great many of missed flops and not win enough when you at last hit.

LATE POSITION

Being seated in a “late position” in a texas hold'em game is a huge advantage since you then get to see your opponents make their moves before you have to act yourself.

To become a good player, you must understand and learn to take advantage. A good starting hand in an early position may actually be a worse hand to play than a bad hand in late position.

START AT THE BOTTOM

Even if you turn out to be the biggest texas hold'em player in the world has ever seen, you are best off starting at the bottom. Playing low stakes limit games or tournaments is a good way to get a lot of hands under your belt without taking too big a risk.

THE ART OF BLUFFING

Take advantage of other players weakness one of the best times to bluff his when you're coming into a pot in a league position and all the other players before you have either checked or folded.

Remember, your bluff is much more likely to be successful against a weak player who has already checked.

Make them believable that you may actually have a really good strong hand of cards. For example, on the floor gives the impression that you may be drawing to a flush or a straight and this is a lot more believable than if you just plays a large bet out of the blue.

The game of Texas Holdem poker is one of strategy and skill. Playing well requires solid knowledge of the poker odds, the ranking of poker hands, probability and of course being able to bluff your opponents.

There are several strategies that you can use in game. However, your choice of poker strategy will depend on the game you are playing and on your skills Texas holdem is by far the most popular variant of poker used in tournaments, so you have a wide array of strategies to choose from to suit your needs and preferences. One particular strategy that you can use when playing in tournaments is choosing the right hand to play. This is often the most common mistake committed by players even in the tournaments. In order to have a good direction in your play, you need to instead keenly select the hands that will must likely be advantageous during the particular round. Your choice of hands to play would also affect your standing later in the game, so you also need to take this into account when playing your hand. Remember that you want to have a strong start early on in the tournament. Another critical thing that you need to avoid is centering your games on suited hands. While these are indeed very useful in forming the high hand, the possibility of forming them is quite small. You would end up losing much even before you get the right cards. What you can do instead is to go for a high hand only if you do have a high chance of getting them. Card counting can be useful in determining your odds in forming the hands, though you need to be careful not to catch attention doing so.

Along with your card skills, good chip management also plays a big role in your over all tournament strategy. Your goal here is to last until the final rounds with enough chips left to use. One thing to avoid doing is betting all out in one round. Many new tournament players often commit this out of excitement. You should therefore choose your bets very closely, going for larger bets only when you are definitely sure that you are going to win them. Otherwise, you should keeps your bets to a comfortable minimum to conserve your chips. Also, depending on the tournament you are playing, you may also have an option to buy additional chips in between rounds, you can use these to add up to your stack.
Since you are competing with other players, you need to hide your actions in the game. Here, bluffing is very useful. One bluff that you can easily pull off Is concealing the true strength of your current hand. You can do this by placing the same bets everytime to confuse other players as to whether you have a high or low hand. Bluffing can also be used offensively by letting them make a false move based on what they thought you have and taking advantage of that. Do remember though that other players might also be setting you up for a bluff so be ready also for that one.
